Moments of Tough Release
When we look inward, it has to be done with courage because what we will find will often be jarring. Healing helps clean the mind, but first it will show you the patterns that cause you the most anguish. There are so many things that have been suppressed that when we take the time to explore our inner world, many old moments and rough emotions will come up for observation and release. The hard part of healing is that we have to be willing to face the storms if we are to enjoy the light of better days.
Even without active suppression, much is accumulated. When you feel especially strong emotions, they leave an imprint on the subconscious, which sets you up to feel that same emotion again when the mind perceives a similar situation. Unbinding these knotted-up burdens and unchaining ourselves from old conditioning sometimes causes moments of turbulence when the past comes alive within us, making the mind feel cloudy and dense as they pass through and finally exit our being.
When you are building self-awareness and intentionally trying to break out of old patterns, the past has a way of thundering into the forefront of your mind. The emotional reactions that have accumulated over time in the subconscious will rise up from the depths, temporarily shaking up your mind and making it cloudy and dark.
These down moments can be to your benefit if you manage them in a way that sets you up for present and future success. The down moments, when you feel old hurts again, are a new opportunity to process things in a healthy way, as opposed to repeating what didn’t work in the past. Ultimately, down moments will keep happening, but you will know your healing is effective when you feel well equipped to handle them with gentleness and the patient understanding that no emotion in the history of your life has ever been permanent.
Times of deep release, when the debris of the past is cleansed from the mind, can make us feel weighed down for hours or even days. While these moments often feel like they are going to last forever, remind yourself that they are temporary. Breaking our allegiance to our past by saying no to old patterns and intentionally giving our energy to new positive habits can sometimes make us feel fear or doubt as we enter into a new era of our life, but recognizing these temporary moments as a shedding of the past and trusting the process can help us more wisely ride the ups and downs of healing.
The process of letting go is often quiet, but sometimes you will have to feel what you once rejected or tried to run away from for it to fully leave your being. Of course, the memories don’t go away, but the emotional energy wrapped around certain memories or ideas is the obstacle that we have to train ourselves to dissipate. Even if past emotions roar as they are released, we do not need to roar back. We just need to let ourselves be with our truth—being with our truth becomes our means for healing.
